Develop, approve and commercialize packaging for new products, line extensions and new suppliers translating Category Management, Supplier needs, Operator learning, and technical expertise into effective packaging offerings to drive US Foods Exclusive Brands profitable growth. Use technical expertise, portfolio management and insight to identify areas for package innovation, printer consolidation, improve profitability through both damage reduction and cost saving opportunities.
Increase consistency in materials, package design and print across the categories, brands, suppliers and platforms. Maintain solid technical and business understanding of the competitive set, and emerging technology to help identify gap or opportunity areas for technical and printing point of difference for US Foods products.
Assure package integrity from prototype through successful commercialization by evaluating material selection, structural integrity, manufacturing and printing capabilities. Maintain process for insuring that all packaging labeling in completed in a timely manner and conforms to applicable local, state and federal regulations while maintaining brand identity and color management established by graphics standards
Clearly communicate USF's packaging and labeling requirements to suppliers, FSQA and Category Management. Establish and enforce packaging, printing and graphic specifications that meet corporate, regulatory, and consumer/customer needs, driving for spec ownership and proprietary advantage where applicable to protect investments and block competitive potential. Assist in development and enforcement of package graphic standards.
Work on teams with Category Management, Marketing, Brands, Creative Services, FSQA, Operations, Suppliers and Printers to meet company and project objectives, drive growth and assure aligned direction on priorities.
Participate in product cuttings, field engagement, working internally and also directly with external vendors, customers, USF partners etc. to leverage innovation potential.
Maintain awareness of new developments in Packaging, Processing Technology, Restaurant, Food Service, Printing practices, industry trends that could influence industry and product direction. Effectively incorporate this learning into business plans and to drive new idea potential.
Provide proper planning, execution and monitoring within function to assure budgetary, resource allocation, and project timeliness are managed and communicated with senior leadership, peers and other stakeholders.
Related Experience: min. 2-5 years technical package development in CPG or Foodservice. Program/project management a plus. Food experience a plus. 4 yr College Degree or equivalent in Packaging Engineering required
Must possess new product development and innovative package development discipline experience from concept through commercialization. Strong passion for food and packaging with the drive to develop this passion throughout the organization. Basic knowledge of print and graphic processes.
High collaboration and project management skills to work across a broad business base, with high leverage of external design and commercialization firms and vendors to successfully achieve technical and business goals. Ability to influence and translate technical information in a non-technical way to all levels in an organization.
